強力な“水冷ウェア”がShiftallから 39900円
Shiftallは、ペルチェチラー方式を採用した新たな水冷ウェア「ChillerX」(チラーエックス)を発表した。8月上旬に発売する。価格は39,900円。バッテリーは内蔵せず、電源のモバイルバッテリーを別途ユーザーが用意する。

「ChillerX」が採用するペルチェチラー方式は、高性能ペルチェ素子で冷却した水を、冷却ユニット(電動ポンプ)で専用ベストの内部に循環させる方式。氷水を循環させる方式と比べると、氷の管理の手間がいらないほか、ペルチェ式と比べると、今回開発の製品は首筋から脇にかけて水冷シートの“面”で覆い、面積比で14倍と、圧倒的に冷却面積が大きいのが特徴。
50Wのハイパワーで動作し、環境温度から最大-35℃まで冷却可能と、冷却性能も強力になっている。これにより、例えば気温が40℃に迫るような環境でも、効果的に身体を冷やせるという。
ペルチェチラー方式はこれまで、10万円を超えるような価格帯で、業務用が中心だった。今回、Shiftallの量産化技術を適用して4万円を切る価格にまで抑え、一般ユーザーでもガジェット感覚で購入できるようにした。
Shiftall 代表取締役CEOの岩佐琢磨氏は、昨今の“酷暑”化している夏のシーズンについて、従来型の冷却デバイスでは性能が追いつかないと指摘。「ChillerX」は冷却面積が大きくなり、50Wのハイパワーで強力に冷却する特徴をアピールしたほか、「一般の人に手にとってもらえる価格帯」と、4万円を切る価格帯を実現したことも特徴とした。
暑熱対策商品は一般的に、4～5月には製品を完成させ販売を開始するが、「ChillerX」については、開発の遅れが影響し、シーズン後半にあたる8月上旬に投入される形になった。こうしたことも影響し、大手企業・ブランドとの協業ではなく、Shiftallの自社ブランドで展開される。
給電方式はUSB Type-Cで、DC20V 3A。条件に満たないものを接続するとエラーを示す赤いLEDが点灯し、動作しない。なお、気温が高い環境下では、モバイルバッテリーの動作可能温度に注意を払う必要がある。
動作モードはMAXモードとECOモードの2種類。稼働時間は、30,000mAhのモバイルバッテリーを使用した場合、MAXモードで1.5時間、ECOモードで3時間。USB Type-C PD65WのACアダプターを接続すれば連続動作も可能。重量は全体(モバイルバッテリー除く)で約1.6kg、うち電動ポンプ部分は約1kg。ベスト部分は水洗いが可能。
このほか、冷却ユニット(電動ポンプ)の取り付け場所を腰以外に移せる延長チューブを別売りのオプションとして発売する予定。冷却ユニットはファンで吸気・排気を行なうため露出している必要があるが、この延長チューブを使用したDIY次第で、冷却ユニットだけを身体の側方や前方に設置したり、上着の外に装着したりできるようになる。例えばサバゲー(サバイバルゲーム)で用いる場合、冷却ユニットだけを上着のプレートキャリアに装着するといったことが可能になるとしている。
短時間ながら使用してみたが、首筋から脇にかけて冷却シートがフィットし、上半身全体で涼しさを感じられる。特に、脇が冷やされるのは日常生活であまりなく、プールに入った時のような感覚が印象的。専用ベストや冷却ユニットの重さはあまり気にならなかった。屋外で使う場合、頭への直射日光などは別途対策する必要はあるものの、身体をクールダウンさせるという意味では大きな効果がありそうだ。
