新型ジープ アベンジャーが、“遊び心満載”であるワケとは？

いっぽうで、試しに後席に座ってみると想像よりはるかに広く、大人2人が無理なく過ごせる居住空間を確保している。
何度も何度も繰り返して恐縮ですが、コンパクトなサイズなのにルーミーな空間を確保するあたりの合理性も、ヨーロッパ製コンパクトカーに通じる。
ヨーロッパらしさばかりでアメリカ車っぽさ、ジープらしさはないかと問われれば、あります。
それは、ジープが「セレクテレイン」と呼ぶドライブモード切り替えシステムで、「ノーマル」「エコ」「スポーツ」といった一般的なモードに加えて、雪道に最適化した「スノー」、泥濘地でもグリップする「マッド」、そして砂地で力を発揮する「サンド」が設定されている。
ジープ アベンジャーじたいは前輪駆動であるけれど、世界の名だたるトレイルを走破してきたジープのノウハウが盛り込まれているのだ。たとえばアンダーボディにはバッテリーを保護するプロテクターが装備されていて、本格的なオフローダーではないものの、多少の悪路なら苦にしないはずだ。
また、フロントグリルはジープブランド伝統の7スロットで、窓ガラスのすみっこやダッシュボードなどに、このクルマを図案化したロゴが隠れていて、宝さがしのようにこれを見つけるのも楽しい。こういった遊び心もジープっぽい。
カタログ上の航続距離は、フル充電で486km（WLTCモード）。積み上がっていくトリップメーターの数字と、減っていく航続距離の数字を突き合わせると、理論値の80〜90%程度、つまり300km以上は問題なく走りそうだ。
価格は¥5,800,000であるものの、国からの補助金¥690,000と、地方自治体の補助金（東京都の場合は¥450,000））を受けられることは知っておきたい。
試乗してみての感想は、ヨーロッパとジープの世界観が融合したユニークな存在であり、欧州カー・オブ・ザ・イヤー受賞の実力は本物であるというものだった。
