日本初 シマザメの繁殖に成功 生まれた子ども展示 茨城 大洗町
茨城県大洗町にある水族館で、サメの一種「シマザメ」の繁殖に日本で初めて成功し、生まれた子どもの展示が行われています。
「アクアワールド茨城県大洗水族館」は、飼育しているサメの種類が国内で最も多く、これまでに26種類のサメの繁殖に成功しています。
先月1日、水槽で飼育している「シマザメ」が産んだ卵から体長11センチほどのオスがふ化して日本で初めての繁殖に成功したと発表し、先月末から展示を始めました。
オスとメスそれぞれ2匹を同じ水槽で飼育し、水温を生息域に近い24度から25度にして繁殖を試みたところ、このうち1匹が去年11月に産卵したということです。
シマザメはインド洋や西部太平洋に生息し、生まれてしばらくは体に白と黒のしま模様があることから名付けられたとされていますが、成長するにつれて褐色に変化していき、体長が30センチほどになると模様はなくなっていくということです。
飼育しているシマザメは、その後も月に2回から3回の産卵を繰り返していて、ふ化する前の卵も見ることができ、今後、50匹ほどがふ化する見込みです。
飼育員の徳永幸太郎さんは「前例がないことから、わからないことも多く、シマザメが誕生した時は感慨深いものがありました。しま模様が変わっていく姿を楽しんで見ていただきたい」と話していました。
