JALとJT、機上で水いらずの歯磨きタブレット 宇宙飛行士の課題から着想
JTとJALは、水のいらないマウスウォッシュタブレット「Chupica(チュピカ)」について、JALが運航する実際の航空機内および海外渡航先での実証実験を実施した。

JTとJALは、宇宙生活上の課題から宇宙と地上双方の暮らしをより良くするビジネス共創プラットフォーム「Think Space Life(TSL)」にそれぞれ参画している。今回の取り組みはTSLを通じた両社として初の共同プロジェクトとなる。
国際宇宙ステーション(ISS)をはじめとする宇宙生活における課題解決から着想を得た実証実験で、機内や海外滞在時におけるチュピカの有用性を検証し、地上生活への応用の可能性を探る。実証実験の対象者はJALの客室乗務員約100名。6時間を超える長時間フライト乗務における休憩時間や渡航先滞在中にチュピカを使用し、使用感に関するアンケートを実施した。
実証実験においてJTは、開発したチュピカを提供し、使用性・快適性および効果の検証を担当した。水資源が限られ、さらに閉鎖環境である航空機内において、チュピカの実用性を評価し、製品改良・商品開発に生かすことを狙いとしている。
チュピカは、タブレット型ハミガキ&マウスウォッシュで、24年9月から一般市場でのテストマーケティングを開始している。宇宙での使用を考慮して開発されており、特に水資源が限られた環境でも口内をリフレッシュできるよう設計されている。
チュピカの前身である「mouthpace(マウスペース)」は、20年からTSLの取り組みとして、宇宙から四季を感じることができるタブレット型ハミガキ&マウスウォッシュとして開発され、これまで4回のISSへの搭載実績がある。25年8月1日からはJAXAの油井宇宙飛行士の長期滞在ミッションでISSに搭載されている。
宇宙での実績を踏まえ、地上での利用を見据えて改良されたのがチュピカで、持ち運びやすさが特徴。日常生活や移動中、アウトドア活動、防災備蓄などに活用可能な新しいオーラルケアのかたちを提案している。
JALは、航空機という地上と異なる閉鎖環境内の安全と快適さを追求してきた。この知見を宇宙生活の課題解決に活かし、その先の宇宙と地上双方の暮らしの改善に繋げるべく、24年にTSLに参画した。
その一環として、客室乗務員による市場調査サポート「JAL CAビジネスリサーチ」を活用し、実際の機内環境での製品の使用性・快適性を検証するとともに、リアルな感覚や意見を収集しフィードバックした。
