Anthropicが日本に拠点を置く理由 StripeがAIとステーブルコインを説明
Stripeは3日、新プロダクトや事業方針について紹介する「Stripe Tour Tokyo 2025」を開催。「コマースの未来」をテーマに、StripeのビジネスアップデートやAI、ステーブルコイン分野への投資・戦略について発表した。

■ Anthropicが日本に拠点を置く理由 StripeとAI
コマースの未来と題した基調講演では、Stripeの主要な施策の発表とともに、8月にAnthropic(アンソロピック)日本法人の代表執行役社長に就任した東條英俊氏が登壇。ストライプ日本法人 代表取締役のダニエル・ヘフェルナン氏がAIの可能性や今後のコマースについて対談した。
AIサービスの「Claude」やLLMなどを展開するAnthropicは、決済基盤としてStripeを採用。グローバル展開のパートナーとなっている。対談ではAIと決済の関係や最新のテクノロジートピックについて説明した。
Anthropicは、アジアパシフィック地域(APAC)で初の現地法人を日本に設立した。APACの拠点はシンガポールなどに作られる場合が多いが、Anthropicが東京に拠点を設けるには理由があるという。
「これまで、ほぼ営業やマーケティングはしていなかった。にも関わらず、すでに『Claude』は日本で多く使われており、オーガニックグロースが非常に大きい。そのため、まず日本に拠点を置き、顧客のそばで日本のスタッフがきちんと提案する必要があると考えた」と東條氏。日本法人は、当面はセールスとマーケティングが中心となるものの、「将来的にはR&D拠点を設けて、本当の意味で日本の企業が求める機能を提供していきたい」とした。
少子高齢化が進む日本におけるAIの社会への浸透については、「生産性はAIで上がってきている。例えば楽天では、Claude Codeによりソフトウェア開発の自動化が進み、(コードの内部構造を整理・改善する)リファクタリング作業においては、Cluade Codeが自動的にコードを生成し続けて、人間が介在する必要がなくなっている。ここでプログラマの生産性は爆上げされている」とする。
一方で、「人間の仕事を置き換えるのでは? とも言われるが、Anthropicではそうは考えていない。あくまで人間をサポートするものと考えており、人間は戦略的で高度で創造性が求められる仕事に集中できる。AIはそういう可能性を秘めているし、責任あるAIのために政府や官民セクターと密接に連携していきたい」と説明した。
Stripeの主軸である決済やFintechの可能性については「すごく大きいと考えている」と東條氏。
「金融機関でもAIが活用されはじめているが、金融の世界では『説明可能性』が重要になる。『正しい答え』を返すのは当然だが、なぜそうなったのか? というロジックや過程を明確に説明できることが、金融機関に受け入れられるには必要。この点はAIはまだ100%とは言えないが、今後の進化で埋めていけるのではないか」とする。また、リスク管理や不正検知などの領域でも、AIにより対応を強化できるとした。
今回のStripe Tourでも、大きなトピックであった「エージェントコマース」、つまりエージェントがEC体験を改善する仕組みについては、「我々も将来をクリアに予測できてはいない。ただ、3年、5年というスパンで見れば、ステップを踏んで実現されていくだろう」と言及した。その際に重要なのは「納得感があるかどうか」と説明し、「大きいのは消費者の利益を優先しなければいけない。例えば要らないものを購買させるようなAIでは浸透しない。消費者利益こそが重要で、個人の価値観や趣味嗜好などを反映しながら長期的な満足度などが重視されるものが必要」とする。
「例えば、日本独自の『ふるさと納税』。商品を選ぶのは大変ですが、自動化されてエージェントコマースが適したものを教えてくれれば便利かもしれません。また、お歳暮とかお中元など、日本の伝統的な贈り物もある。AIがどう気持ちよく提案するか? また温かみが感じられるか、単に『自動化』というテクノロジーの側面だけでなく、感情を含めた取り扱いが必要で、その前提として安心・安全で信頼できるものが必要。そこはAnthropicのミッションとつながってくる」(東條氏)
■ ステーブルコインに本腰
また、今回のStripe Tourで強調されたのが「AI」と「ステーブルコイン」への対応。Stripeは年初にステーブルコインプラットフォームの「Bridge」を買収し、ステーブルコインを活用した資金管理機能「Stablecoin Financial Accounts」を導入。ドル建てのステーブルコインである「USDC」とBridgeの「USDB」に対応した。
ブラジルやトルコなどでの利用が進んでいるほか、自国の通貨が安定していない国や地域ではステーブルコインが浸透しているという。ただし、日本においては政府や通貨が安定していることもあり、ユースケースが生まれていない。
一方で、国境をまたいだ越境取引や日本からの海外進出、企業の財務管理などで大きな可能性があるとして、日本においてもユースケース創出とともに、日本企業の海外進出での採用などを働きかけていくという。
