ジョーダン ブランドから新たなモデルナンバーが公開された。40年という歴史から生まれた革新的なバスケットボールシューズ「エア ジョーダン40」は、旧モデルからの進化ではなく、新たな革新を注入することを目指した意欲的な一足である。
最大の特徴は、ナイキ史上初めてミッドソールにフルレングスのZoom Xフォームと同じくフルレングスのズーム ストロベルを採用したことだ。ストロベルとはアッパーが縫い付けられる基盤となるパーツのことで、足裏直下にフルレングスのZoom Xフォームを設置することで、クッショニングの恩恵と高反発、そして軽量化を実現した。これによりプレーヤーの反応性や推進力向上に寄与する。インナーはフルレングスのブーティ構造。6本のウェービングテープによりフィット感が向上されている。
デザイン面では、これまでの“物語”が散りばめられている。たとえばソール裏のモールディングは、すべてのモチーフが40度の角度で構成された。またシュータン脇のウイングの羽も40度の角度で設計されている。そのほかエア ジョーダン5やエア ジョーダン12からのオマージュもディテールに散りばめられている。
新たなビジョンとエンジニアリングが融合したこれからの「エア ジョーダン」シリーズにも期待したい。
