天皇皇后両陛下 モンゴル訪問の日程終える 13日帰国の途へ
国際親善のためモンゴルを訪問している天皇皇后両陛下は、草原地帯で国民的なスポーツの祭典「ナーダム」の花形競技、競馬を観戦したあと、希少な馬がいる国立公園を視察し、現地での主な日程を終えられました。
11日、首都ウランバートルの国立中央スタジアムでナーダムの開会式に出席した両陛下は、現地時間の12日午前10時すぎに、40キロほど離れた草原にある競馬会場に到着し、フレルスフ大統領夫妻の出迎えを受けられました。
競馬は、騎馬遊牧民の国モンゴルを象徴する花形競技で、両陛下は、子どもたちが騎手を務める100頭以上の馬が大草原を22キロにわたって疾走する様子をゴールの手前およそ500メートルからご覧になりました。
先頭集団が前を駆け抜けていくと、天皇陛下は小型のデジタルカメラで撮影したり皇后さまとともに双眼鏡をのぞいたりして行方を見守り、満面の笑みを見せて騎手たちに手を振られていました。
このあと両陛下は、さらに60キロほど離れた「ホスタイ国立公園」に車で移動されました。
ここは、自然界では1960年代に絶滅したとされる最古の野生馬「タヒ」の保護区となっていて、両陛下は所長からオランダの動物園から移されたタヒを繁殖し、再び野生化させる試みなどについて説明を受けられました。
そして、タヒが草原で草をはんでいる様子をご覧になったということです。
天皇皇后として初めてのモンゴル訪問で、お二人は国賓として歓迎行事に臨むとともに、モンゴルの歴史や文化に触れ、両国の交流のかけ橋となってきた人たちと交流を重ねられました。
また、終戦から80年の節目を前に敗戦後旧ソビエトによって抑留されモンゴルで命を落とした日本人の慰霊碑を訪ね、帰国がかなわなかった抑留者の霊を慰められました。
両陛下は、13日、帰国の途につかれます。
