山口「長生炭鉱」事故の遺骨潜水調査 市民団体と国が意見交換
戦時中の水没事故で183人が死亡した山口県宇部市の「長生炭鉱」で、遺骨の潜水調査を行っている市民団体と国による意見交換会が開かれました。団体側が財政的支援などを求めたのに対し、国は現時点の対応は難しいとした一方で、今後については「性質を踏まえて対応を検討していく」と述べました。
宇部市の海底にあった「長生炭鉱」は戦時中の1942年2月に坑道の天井が崩れる事故で水没し、朝鮮半島出身の136人を含む183人が犠牲になりましたが、遺骨は見つかっていません。
市民団体は遺骨収集の潜水調査を行っていて、これまで国に対し財政面や技術面での支援を求めてきましたが、国は「安全性を確保できない」などとして国による実地調査や団体が行う調査への協力は行わない考えを示しています。
22日の意見交換会は団体の申し入れに応じて厚生労働省と外務省の担当者や国会議員などが参加して開かれ、この中で団体側は「今こそ政府の支援が必要な時期に来ている」などとして、団体が実施する調査の安全を確保するため補強工事などへの財政的支援を行うことや、安全性への技術的支援を行うため潜水や港湾工事の専門家や国の担当者らの現地視察などを求めました。
これに対して国の担当者は現時点での財政的支援や現地視察については「安全性に懸念があり対応可能な範囲を超えている」と回答した一方で、今後については「専門的な知見を要することなので、本件の性質を踏まえて対応を検討していく」と述べ、専門家の意見を踏まえて検討する考えを示しました。
「長生炭鉱の水非常を歴史に刻む会」の井上洋子共同代表は、「国の回答は大きな前進だと捉えている。遺骨の収容に向けて国として何ができるのかを検討してほしい」と話していました。
