新型レクサスLMの“努力”は続く!!! 超高級ミニバンの地道な進化とは？
一部改良を受けたレクサス「LM」に、『GQ JAPAN』ライフスタイルエディターのイナガキが乗った。超高級ミニバンならではの世界とは？

ステアリングを握ると、あらゆるミニバンの中で群を抜いて気持ちのいい走りを楽しめる。
4座仕様であるEXECUTIVEには、前後席を隔てるパーティションがある。上部にある昇降／調光ガラスを閉じると、前席は静寂に包まれる。フロントから発生するエンジン音などを遮断し、後席の快適性を高めることなどが目的の装備ではあるものの、前席にもメリットはある。
アクセルを踏むと、2.4リッター直列4気筒ターボハイブリッドシステムならではのパワフルさが際立つ。2.5t近い車重量を意識させない、パワーがイイ。しかも、パワー制御は巧みで、荒々しさは一切ナシ。2000万円超にふさわしいジェントルさがたまらない。
パワーユニットもさることながらいつも感心するのは足まわりだ。重心が高いミニバンであるにもかかわらず、コーナリングが実に安定している。もちろんスポーツカーのような、路面に吸い付くようなコーナリングではないものの、あらゆるミニバンを凌駕するのは間違いない。それゆえ、ワインディングロードでもこれまでのミニバンよりかはハイスピードで駆け抜けられる。
乗り心地は素晴らしい。路面や走行状態に応じて、より瞬時に減衰力の切り替えが可能な、リニアソレノイド式アクチュエーターと周波数感応バルブを併用した「周波数感応バルブ付AVS」などによって、フラットライドを実現。ロールス・ロイス並みと記すのは大袈裟かもしれないが、少なくとも高速道路をまっすぐ走っているかぎり、世界の超高級車に負けない乗り心地だった。
“走る”・“曲がる”、に加え“止まる”もしっかりと手が入っている。ヘビー級の車両重量でありながら、高速域からも安心してブレーキング可能。ストッピング性能は相当高いし、そのとき車両の不快な揺れがないのも感心。というのも、加圧ユニットによる前後独立の油圧制御により、ドライバーのブレーキ操作量に応じた前後輪の制動力配分を最適化するブレーキ車両姿勢制御や、停止間際の制動力配分をコントロールするスムーズストップ制御を標準装備しているからだ。
