片山真理がアーティストブック『Synthesis』を刊行。過去6年間にわたる写真の仕事を壮観
アーティスト・片山真理の過去6年間の作品を網羅したアートブック『Synthesis』が発売される。

『Synthesis』（SPBH Editions）は、裁縫、写真、絵画など多様なメディアを駆使し、「自然、人工、正しさ」といった社会の規範に問いかける作品を制作してきたアーティスト・片山真理の集大成とも言えるアートブックだ。娘の誕生や故郷・群馬への帰還という重要な時期を反映。新シリーズ《tree of life》を含む、自宅スタジオで撮影した9つの写真シリーズを収録している。初めて海外で個展を行った2019 年、 アートの世界でも 「2 本足で立つ」 ことありきで成り立つ場所であることを痛感し、 そこで生き抜く決意を新たにしたという片山。このアートブックもそれを感じさせるような、変化し成長しつづける力強い流れで展開していく。また哲学的概念としての「合成（synthesis）」のプロセスを示すほか、英語と日本語のショートエッセイ、ドローイングも掲載している。
同書は、9月11日から14日にニューヨーク近代美術館PS1で開催される「NY Art Book Fair」で初披露・発売され、日本国内では9月28日に銀座蔦屋書店にお目見え。同日はサイン会も開催される予定だ。ヨーロッパでは、11月13日から16日まで開催される「Paris Photo」にて紹介され、さらにパリの所属ギャラリーでの作品展示やトークイベントも企画されている。
ロンドンのV&A博物館の写真センター内にある現代ギャラリーでは11月15日より、《tree of life》シリーズを含む、V&A 博物館のための委嘱作品5点が約18ヶ月にわたって公開。アジアの女性作家として初となる展示は新シリーズ《tree of life》からの5点（大2点、中3点）で構成される。メインの大2点は、写真作品としてこれまでの片山のキャリアのなかで最大サイズの2.4m x 1.6mとなる予定だ。
なお、2026年には日本を巡回する大規模個展と、彼女の人生と作品に焦点を当てたドキュメンタリー映画の公開も控えている。
