島根 隠岐の島町「世間桜」が見頃迎える
花の咲き具合でその年の作物の出来を占ったとされる島根県隠岐の島町の「世間桜」が見頃を迎えています。
隠岐の島町の元屋地区には、樹齢700年ほどとされ、島根県の天然記念物に指定されている「エドヒガン」という品種の2本の桜があります。
江戸時代には、花の咲き具合でその年の作物の出来を占ったとされ「世間桜」と呼ばれていて、このうち、高さおよそ16メートルの「男桜」と呼ばれる桜が満開となり見頃を迎えています。
「女桜」と呼ばれる高さ13メートルほどの桜も咲いていて、訪れた人たちは写真を撮ったり絵を描いたりして楽しんでいました。
訪れた男性は「最高にきれい。見に来る価値があった」と話していました。
「世間桜」を守る会の佐々木雅秀会長は、今後1週間ほどが見頃だとし「2本の桜のコントラストがよく、ことしは豊作になると期待している」と話していました。
