空前のニルヴァーナTシャツ旋風を紐解く──ベルベルジン・ディレクター、藤原裕「ヴィンテージ百景」
古着市場でこれほどプリントTシャツが騒がれたことはなかった。書籍『NIRVANA T-SHIRT BOOK HOW LOWNG?』の著者である門畑明男と、我らが藤原裕がこの現象について語る。

藤原 こんにちは藤原裕です。今回は後輩との対談ということで、何か変に緊張しています。門畑（明男）と出会ったのは18年ほど前。「ベルベルジン」と「フェイクα」が一緒になるタイミング（註1）で、彼は「フェイクα」の系列店舗のスタッフでした。5歳下とは思えないほどものすごい知識を持っていたので頼もしい仲間が増えたなと思ったのを覚えています。それがいまやニルヴァーナ関連の本を2冊も出しちゃうなんて……先生って呼んだほうがいいのかな？
門畑 出会って間もない頃は僕のことを年上だと勘違いしていて、敬語でしたよね？ そろそろあのときの感じに戻ってもらっていいですよ！ さて、それはさておき最初のニルヴァーナ本『T-SHIRT BOOK HELLOH?』（リットーミュージック刊）は、裕さんが501の書籍（『THE 501®XX A COLLECTION OF VINTAGE JEANS』WPP刊）を出版したことがすごく大きかったです。この本を読んで、自分もやってみたいと思ったんです。
藤原 おおお、門畑もぼくのフォロワー、通称“ユタカー”だったとは！ 公式認定ハートボタンをあげちゃうよ！ それはともかく、今日はニルヴァーナTシャツのコレクションについて聞きたくて。蒐集はいつから？
門畑 22〜23年前です。最初に買ったのはスマイルプリントのもので、原宿の「ボイス」で買いました。当時2900円だったと思います。好きなバンドがたくさんある中で、その頃、特にニルヴァーナが好きだったんです。あの頃は「ナンバーナイン」などの影響から、グランジの再解釈が流行っていたこともあると思います。デザインもサイズも気にせず、ニルヴァーナがプリントされたものだったら買っていました。
藤原 でも着ていたのを見たことがない。
門畑 自分に似合うと思えなかったので基本的に着ませんでした。また集めているという感覚もあった、というのもあります。とはいえ、雑誌や店をこまめにチェックして買っていたわけではなく、見つけたらとりあえず買っておくかって言う感じでした。なんとなく買っていたある日、誰かに「マニアだよね」って言われて、初めて自分が結構沼ってるコレクターであることを認識しました。今は120着ほど所有しています。
藤原 今はバン（ド）Tブームで、特にニルヴァーナは人気だよね。でも、ジーンズやほかの古着と大きく違い、ブート（非正規品）も人気が高いのが面白い。
門畑 デザインにもよりますが、基本的にどのバンドのブートも人気です。ただここまで値段が上がったのは、おそらくニルヴァーナのTシャツの影響が大きいと思います。たとえば『T-SHIRT BOOK HELLOH?』や『NIRVANA T-SHIRT BOOK HOW LOWNG?』に掲載されているものはみんな探してるし、非掲載でさらにレアなものも探す。デザインはブートの方が独創的なものが多いから、オフィシャルよりもブートに価値がつきやすくなる。とはいえブートの中にも90年代に流通していたものだけでなく、つい最近作られた価値のないものまであるから、買うときは勇気が入りますね。実物を見ても判断できないことがありますから。
藤原 ブートはどこで作られてるの？
門畑 生産地は色々あるんですよ。イタリアやフランスなどヨーロッパのものから、メキシコまで、ニルヴァーナがツアーで訪れた場所が多いです。おそらく、ライブ会場の外にある出店のような場所で売っていたんでしょうね。メキシコ製は大判ですごく派手でインパクトが強烈。同じ派手なデザインでもヨーロッパのものはどこかファッション性が高い。アメリカ製のオフィシャルものが一番シンプルです。
藤原 海賊版といえど、90年代に流通してたものだからアンビルやオニータなど古着ファンが好きなボディを使っている個体があるのも魅力だよね。まだ人気は続きそうかな？
門畑 この夏、ますます人気がでそうです。とはいえお金がないと買えないのかといえば、そうでもありません。ニルヴァーナはオフィシャル＆ブートを問わず他のバンドよりもTシャツのデザインバリエーションが多いんです。私自身もまだ所有していないTシャツがあるくらい。これからも発掘できる可能性があるので、掘り当てる楽しさも残されているジャンルだと思います。探すなら、こまめに店に足を運ぶのがベスト。綺麗に畳んであるTシャツの山から一枚ずつチェックするという古着探しの王道が効きます。僕もそれで何枚か見つけていますから。なぜかというと、あまりにも種類が多いので、知識にムラのある古着屋のスタッフが見落とす可能性があるからです。ショップのSNSに投稿されてからではすでに遅いんです。
藤原 いまだにぼくも挨拶がてら古着屋をチェックしてるのは、そういうマメな探索で実際に出合いがあるんだよね。掘り出し物を探すのではなく、年がら年中ルート営業のようにチェックするのが大事。SNSは確かに古着の流通を変えたけど、それでも古着探しの基本である“足で見つける”ってのはやっぱり忘れちゃいけない。いや〜、門畑とこんな話ができるなんて、今日の酒は吸い込みよさそうだな！ よし1杯……いや2升、行こう！

ベルベルジン・ディレクター
原宿のヴィンテージショップ「ベルベルジン」顔役。ヴィンテージデニムマイスターとしても認知されている一方、多くのブランドでデニムをプロデュースするなど、現在のデニム人気を担っている。ニルヴァーナTや、アニメTの古着人気が爆発し、これまで自分のなかで守備範囲でなかったカテゴリの台頭にはじめて年齢を意識しはじめたユタカ。「え、ユタカさん、47歳なんですか？ マジでそんな年に見えませんね！」と言われるたびにドーパミンがどっくんどっくん噴き上げる。
