イチローさん アメリカ野球殿堂入り記念の新たな展示始まる
日本選手として初めてアメリカ野球殿堂入りを果たしたイチローさんの功績をたたえる新たな展示が、アメリカ ニューヨーク州の殿堂博物館で始まりました。
2001年から大リーグのマリナーズなどでプレーしたイチローさんは、シーズン262安打の大リーグ記録を打ちたてるなど2019年の引退までに多くの功績を残し、ことし1月、日本選手で初めてのアメリカ野球殿堂入りを果たしました。
これを記念して6日、ニューヨーク州クーパーズタウンにあるアメリカ野球殿堂博物館で、同じくことし殿堂入りを果たした通算251勝のCC・サバシアさん、通算422セーブをあげたビリー・ワグナーさんなどと並んで、イチローさんの新たな展示のコーナーが設けられました。
展示は日本時代を含めたイチローさんのキャリアを振り返ることができるようになっていて、2000年にプロ野球 オリックスで、大リーグ移籍前の最後の試合で着用したユニフォームや、マリナーズ時代の2007年にMVP＝最優秀選手を受賞したオールスターゲームで史上初となるランニングホームランを打った際のボール、それにマーリンズに所属していた2016年に大リーグ通算3000本目のヒットを打った時のスパイクなどが飾られています。
この日は、朝から博物館の職員が陳列作業を進めていました。
展示を担当した殿堂博物館のトム・シーバーさんは「彼には伝えたい物語が多すぎて限られたスペースで収めるのは大変な作業だ。日本での活躍も不可欠で、できるだけ彼の多才さを伝えられる努力をしている」と話していました。
ことし7月27日にはクーパーズタウンで殿堂入りの表彰式典が行われ、イチローさんも出席する予定です。
