新型プジョー3008は、獲物を狙うライオンのようで勇ましいぞ!!! “次世代フラッグシップモデル”である理由とは？

フルモデルチェンジした新型プジョー3008が、日本に上陸した。
新型プジョー3008は、CセグメントSUVだ。3008シリーズは、これまで世界累計132万台以上を販売したという。
日本向けの新型プジョー3008のプレスリリースには、「次世代フラッグシップモデル」と興味深いワードが記されていた。
Stellantisジャパンの公式ウェブサイトを調べると、プジョーのモデルラインナップから「508」がいつの間にか消えていた。508は3008より上級のDセグメントに属するモデルだ。2018年登場の2代目はファストバックとステーションワゴンの2モデル。いずれの車型も、ミニバン＆SUVばやりの日本のトレンドからするとやや厳しい。カタログ落ちするのも致し方ない。
かつてのプジョーは「607」や「605」、そして「604」といったEセグメントセダンもラインナップし、日本へも導入された。気づけば本カテゴリーのモデルは、フランス本国でも廃止。当時のDセグメントモデルである「407」と統合し、508に1本化された。
その508も今や日本市場ではフェイドアウト……。フランス車の大型モデルは、プジョーに限らずルノーもシトロエンも日本では苦戦していただけに、それでも508を導入したStellantisジャパンはユーザーフレンドリーかもしれない。
いずれにせよ、プジョーはCセグメントである新型3008を、フラッグシップモデルと謳い勝負に出た。実に斬新な戦略である。
もっとも、新型プジョー3008はCセグメントとは思えぬ完成度を誇る。Dセグメント並みのデザイン、先進性、快適性、そして走行性能を有する。DセグメントがCセグメントの価格で購入できるのだから、買い得ではないか！
