アシックス、廃棄予定のシューズを原料としたソファ カリモクと協業
アシックスはカリモク家具との協業により、使用されずに廃棄予定となったアシックスのシューズを原料に用いたソファを作製した。非売品。

アシックス製シューズのデッドストックやサンプル品などを粉砕した材料を、アシックスからカリモク家具へ提供。クッション性や耐久性をもつことからソファの座面に採用され、カリモク家具によりシューズ由来の材料を採用した初めての家具製品を作製した。
シューズ由来の材料は、マテリアルリサイクルの技術により分解、粉砕して分別されたフォーム材(EVA)。このフォーム材を綿と混合させて、適度なやわらかさと反発性をもたせるなどクッション性を調整している。また、座面上部にフォーム材を固めた3mm厚のシートを重ねることで適度な剛性をもたせ、座り心地の向上を図っている。
ソファは3種類で、「Karimoku New Standard」ブランドのデザインが取り入れられている。これらのソファは5月7日に移転したアシックスジャパン本社(東京都千代田区丸の内二丁目7番2号 JPタワー 24階)のVIPラウンジ、ワーキングカフェ、オープンミーティングスペースの3カ所に計14台設置する。
ソファのほか、シューズに使われていた繊維を30%混入させた糸を表面の生地に使用した吸音パネルも作製し、5つの会議室に計24枚設置する。
アシックスは、使用されずに廃棄予定となったシューズを原料に用いたスニーカー「NEOCURVE(ネオカーブ)」を開発し、24年11月からヨーロッパ限定で発売している。
NEOCURVEは、アシックス製シューズのデッドストック、サンプル品、自社規定をクリアせず販売できなかったものなどを粉砕・材料化し、材料の一部として活用。オランダに拠点を置くシューズリサイクルの大手Fast Feet Grinded社によって、独自技術を駆使して分解され、フォーム材、ゴム、繊維、皮革、金属、その他材料に分けられる。
各材料は、シューズに求められる強度や耐久性などを満たした品質となるようテストを繰り返し材料化され、アッパー(甲被)、靴底、ミッドソール(甲被と靴底の間の中間クッション材)、中敷きなどに採用している。
ソファ作製の取り組みはNEOCURVEの製造技術を使いながら、より有効活用すべく企画したもの。アシックスのシューズから生まれたリサイクル材料をNEOCURVE以外に利用したのは今回が初となる。
アシックスは今後も、サーキュラーエコノミーの実現に向けた新たなモデルとしての有効性を検証しながら、リサイクル材料の他の産業における利用なども検討する。
