伊東美咲、人生の大きな転機となったマツダ車に再会！ プライベートでも愛用した懐かしの1台を振り返る
愛車を見せてもらえば、その人の人生が見えてくる。気になる人のクルマに隠されたエピソードをたずねるシリーズ第78回の前編。俳優の伊東美咲さんが、懐かしのマツダ車と再会した！

クルマとの出会いは、人生を大きく変えることがある。もちろん、好きなクルマや憧れのクルマとの出会いもあるけれど、俳優の伊東美咲さんにとっては、2代目マツダ「デミオ」とテレビコマーシャルで“共演”したことが、人生の大きな転機になったという。
撮影用に用意したマツダ デミオを見ながら、伊東さんは「マツダさんとのお仕事は長く続けさせていただいて、本当に自分の糧になりました」と、しみじみと振り返った。
学生時代にスカウトされ、1999年にアサヒビールのイメージガールを務め、雑誌「CanCam」の専属モデルを経て伊東さんは、すぐに広告やドラマで活躍するようになる。そして2002年、マツダ デミオのイメージキャラクターを務めることが決まった。
「日本を代表する企業とのお仕事が決まって、とても光栄に思ったのと同時に身が引き締まる思いだったのを覚えています」と、伊東さんは語る。
2002年11月6日付けのマツダのプレスリリースの一部を抜粋したい。
「今回、伊東美咲さんをキャラクターとして起用したのは、彼女が男性、女性とも支持が高く、彼女のような元気でアクティブな20代の女性ユーザーに、新型『マツダデミオ』の中心機種であるCozy（コージー）を訴求するためである」
最初のテレビCMは、ホワイトキャンバストップのデミオに乗った伊東さんが、明るい陽射しを浴びながら颯爽と出かけるというものだった。
マツダの狙いは見事にあたって、ここからデミオは大ヒットする。そして今回、撮影用車両を手配してくださった、当時を知るマツダの広報担当者が秘話を明かしてくれた。
いわく、売れに売れた初代デミオと異なり、2002年8月にフルモデルチェンジを受けた2代目は、思ったほど“初速”が伸びなかったという。ところが、伊東さんの起用が起爆剤となってディーラーへの来店者数が急増。伊東さんの等身大ポスターなど、販促グッズも人気を後押しした。
また、女性と一緒に来た男性がデミオのスポーティ仕様に心を奪われたり、逆にパートナーに連れられて来店した女性が「かわいい！」と、デミオにひと目惚れしたりするなど、マツダの客層を広げる大きなきっかけとなった。
そして2代目デミオがデビューした翌年、伊東さんのアイデアを採り入れた「スターダストピンク」という仕様が全国限定600台で発表された。伊東さんによれば、「当時、私もプライベートでスターダストピンクに乗るようになりました」とのことだ。
「私の自動車生活は、デミオのスターダストピンクで始まりました。小回りが利くので都内でも便利に乗ることができましたし、箱根や横浜にドライブへ出かけたこともいい思い出です。コマーシャルでもそういうシーンが使われましたが、室内が広いうえにシートアレンジが豊富で、使い勝手がとてもよかったのを覚えています。実際に私がドライブした運転シーンもありますし、北海道ロケなど、日本中いろいろなところに連れて行っていただき、スタッフのみなさんとの交流ですとか、本当に素晴らしい経験をさせてもらいました」
スターダストピンクも大当たりで、翌2004年にも今度は1000台の特別仕様車として仕立てられた。
さらに2005年には、「『Stardust Pink（スターダストピンク）』がもつ『かわいらしさ』を継承しながら、エアロパーツによる『かっこよさ』を新たに追加した」（マツダのプレスリリースより）という、マツダ デミオ「Casual-Stylish“M”」特別仕様車まで設定されている。
ちなみにこの特別仕様車の購入者には、伊東さんのサイン入りオリジナルキーケースがプレゼントされたという。
伊東美咲さんはそれくらい影響力の大きなイメージキャラクターだったのだ。
「マツダさんとのお仕事は、いいものを作ろうという気持ちが通じ合っていた印象がありました。長い期間にわたって契約していただきましたが、それだけでなく、有意義な時間を過ごしたという意味でも、私の人生で1台といったら、真っ先にデミオの名前が浮かびます」
タレントがクルマのイメージキャラクターになることは珍しくない。けれども、これほどのwin-winの関係を築いた例は、それほど多くないのではないだろうか。
伊東美咲さんとマツダ デミオの出会いは、お互いにとってとても幸福なものだったのだ。
1977年5月26日、福島県生まれ。女性誌「CanCam」専属モデルを経て、2000年に俳優デビュー。ドラマ「ごくせん」(日本テレビ系)、「電車男」や「サプリ」（共にフジテレビ系）などに数々の話題作に出演。2004年に初主演した映画「海猫」で第28回日本アカデミー賞新人俳優賞に輝く。結婚、出産を経て2017年から海外在住。
