新燃岳「マグマ噴出に移行する可能性は否定できず」調査委員長
先月、2018年以来の噴火が発生し活発な火山活動が続いている霧島連山の新燃岳について、政府の火山調査委員会の委員長は、今後マグマが噴出する噴火に移行する可能性は否定できないとしたうえで、注意深く監視していく考えを示しました。
鹿児島と宮崎の県境にある霧島連山の新燃岳は、先月22日に2018年以来となる噴火が発生し、7月2日は噴煙が火口から2800メートルの高さまで上がるなど、火山活動が活発な状態が続いています。
2日に開かれた政府の火山調査委員会では、新燃岳について火山ガスの量が非常に多く、深い場所の膨張を示すとみられる地殻変動が続いている一方、火山灰の分析から新鮮なマグマの噴出は確認できないといった観測結果が報告されました。
そのうえで、調査委員会は臨時の会合を開くような切迫した状況ではないとする見方を示しました。
火山調査委員会の委員長で、防災科学技術研究所火山研究推進センターの清水洋センター長は個人の見解としたうえで「現状では、マグマが噴出する『マグマ噴火』とは言いにくいが、今後本格的に移行することは否定できない。深い場所の膨張が加速しないか注意深く監視する必要がある」と述べました。
新燃岳には噴火警戒レベル3が発表されていて、気象庁は火口からおおむね3キロの範囲で大きな噴石や火砕流に警戒するよう呼びかけています。
