埼玉 入間で新茶まつり 市役所の茶畑で茶摘み体験
新茶がおいしい時期とされる「八十八夜」の1日、お茶どころ、埼玉県入間市で新茶まつりが開かれました。
「狭山茶」の最大産地、入間市の市役所には茶畑があります。
立春から88日目の「八十八夜」にあたる1日、市役所の茶畑などで新茶まつりが開かれ、かすり姿の市と農協の職員が新茶を摘み取ったあと、来場した一般の人たちも茶摘みを体験しました。
「ほい炉」と呼ばれる和紙を張った作業台の上で茶葉を乾燥させる伝統的な作業も実演され、職人たちは火加減を調整しながら茶の葉っぱを手でもみ乾かしていました。
そして、会場では新茶がふるまわれ、東京から夫婦で来た30代の女性は「甘くておいしいです」と話していました。
ことしは3月から気温の低い日が続いて新芽がゆっくりと養分を吸い取りながら成長したため、ひときわ、おいしいお茶が期待できるということです。
「入間市茶業協会」の西澤明さんは「この時期だけの独特の新茶の香りと味を楽しんでいもらいたい」と話していました。
