グーグル「AIモード」検索、日本でスタート 「検索は知性になる」
Googleは9日、日本の「Google 検索」において、AIがより難しい質問に文脈を理解しながら対応可能になる「AIモード」を開始した。数週間をかけて順次展開し、PCとモバイルのブラウザ、AndroidとiOSのGoogleアプリで利用可能になる。

AIモードはこれまで、英語環境において180の国と地域に対応していたが、新たに日本語、ヒンディー語、インドネシア語、韓国語、ポルトガル語に対応した。
検索の新しいモード「AIモード」(AI Mode)は、「AIによる概要」の機能を拡張したもので、「探索的な質問」や「地域のおすすめを探す」、「旅行の計画を立てる」、「複雑な手順を理解する」といった、より複雑なタスクで特に役立つという。
例えば、京都旅行のために検索する時に、「京都・旅行」などのシンプルなクエリではなく、「京都駅出発で6泊7日の旅行プランを立てて。伝統工芸とか歴史的な場所を巡るアクティビティ中心のプランで、ディナーでおすすめのレストランも入れて。」と聞くと、旅行の詳細を調べ、旅程やレストランの候補なども含めて提案する。さらに、「10月に行く場合は、この地域の近くで開催予定のお祭りはある?」といった追加の質問をして、さらに深く掘り下げて調べられる。
通常のGoogle 検索では「すべて」「ニュース」「画像」などのカテゴリータブが上部に並んでいるが、ここに「AIモード」が追加。タブを指定することで、AIが回答する内容を表示できる。
AIモードの実現には、「クエリ ファンアウト」と呼ばれる技術を採用する。この技術では、質問をサブトピックに分解し、利用者に代わり、サブクエリに対して検索を実行。これにより、従来のGoogle 検索よりはるかに深くウェブを探索できるようになり、個別の質問に最も適した、関連性の高いコンテンツを見つけられるようにする。
AIモードは、Gemini 2.5のカスタム バージョンを使用しており、画像や動画を使用した視覚的な応答などのマルチモーダルな検索にも対応。また、Androidの「かこって検索(Circle to Search)」を使う場合もAIモードが動作する。
例えば、スペイン語のメニューの写真を撮り「このメニューが何かわからないんだけど、どれがベジタリアン向けか教えて」と尋ねると、ベジタリアンの人も食べられるメニューを料理の内容とあわせて教えてくれる。
Google 検索のプロダクトマネジメント担当バイスプレジデントHema Budaraju(ヘマ ブダラージュ)氏は、「Geminiの能力とGoogle 検索の情報収集力を統合することで、検索は情報から知性へ進化する」と説明。AIを大々的に活用するが、Google 検索の品質およびランキング システムに基づいた結果を反映し。「事実性を向上させるための新しいアプローチ」としている。
なお、米国で先行導入されたAIモードでは、一部のパブリッシャー/権利者から「検索でクリックされず、検索経由のトラフィックが減少した」との指摘が出ていると報じられている。ブダラージュ氏は、「トラフィック減少はみられていない。数十億のクリックが試みられている。(報道の)かなりの部分は不正確で(特定サイトの)トラフィック減少は複数の理由がある」と言及。また、Webサイトへのリンクを付与し、「情報元(ソース)との深いコネクションを構築している」と語った。
なお、Perplexityなど一部の「AI検索」エンジンは検索対象をWebサイト側で判別するrobots.txtを無視しているとされているが、AIモードについては、「(AIモードは)検索に組み込まれている。パブリッシャーはオプトアウト出来て、検索結果を表示しないということを『選べる』。検索と同じ体験だ」と説明している。
ビジネス展開については、現在回答の下に広告をつけるテストを行なっており、今後も検討を進めていくとした。
