沖縄戦 旧日本軍の司令部壕 中枢部につながる出入り口発見
太平洋戦争末期の沖縄戦で旧日本軍が首里城の地下に造った司令部壕の調査で、沖縄県はこれまで確認されていなかった中枢部につながる出入り口を発見したと発表しました。
県は多くの住民が犠牲になった沖縄戦を語り継ぐため、見つかった司令部壕の出入り口を再来年度に一般に公開することを目指すとしています。
沖縄県は1945年の沖縄戦の際に旧日本軍の第32軍が首里城の地下に造った司令部壕の保存と公開に向けて取り組んでいて、23日、昨年度の調査結果を公表しました。
それによりますと、首里城の入り口付近にあり、世界文化遺産に登録されている石門近くの地表からおよそ4メートルの地中で、「第1坑口」と呼ばれる出入り口を発見したということです。
出入り口は、作戦室などがあったとされる司令部壕の中枢部につながっていて、これまでのアメリカ軍や県などの調査では確認されていませんでした。
当時、アメリカ軍に包囲された第32軍は、この壕を放棄して多くの住民が避難する沖縄本島南部への撤退を決め、このことが県民の4人に1人が犠牲となる悲劇につながりました。
戦後79年を迎え、当時を証言できる人が減りゆく中、体験者からはこうした戦跡の活用を求める声も強まっていて、県は再来年度に第1坑口を一般に公開することを目指すとしています。
また、過去に県が調査し暫定的に整備している「第5坑口」についても、当時の位置を確かめるため入り口付近で同様の調査を行ったところ、地表からおよそ1.5メートルから2メートルの深さに、当時使用されていたと考えられるトロッコのレールが見つかったということです。
県は、第5坑口については来年度の公開を目指しています。
