日本初の大型液体ロケット「H3ロケット6号機(30形態)」は何が新しいのか
JAXAは、2025年度内の打上げが予定されている日本初の大型液体燃料ロケット「H3ロケット6号機(30形態試験機)」について、その概要を発表した。

これまでH3ロケットは、LE-9エンジンと、固体ロケットブースタ(SRB-3)によって打上げが行なわれてきた。例えば、これまで飛行実績のある「22形態」では、液体燃料を使うLE-9エンジン2基と、固体ロケットブースタ(SRB-3)2本をロケットの第1弾に装備して打上げが行なわれていた。
H3ロケット6号機(30形態試験機)は固体ロケットブースタを使用せず、液体燃料を使用するLE-9エンジンを3基に増やして運用する形態。打上げ費用も1回あたり50億円と試算され、安価なのが特徴。なお「30形態試験機」は「さんぜろけいたい・しけんき」と読み、「3基」のLE-9と「0基」のSRB-3で構成されるという意味。前出の「22形態」はLE-9×2とSRB-3×2という意味になる。
また、衛星フェアリング(衛星が搭載されるロケットの先端部分)はショートタイプが使用されるため、型番としては「H3-30S」(Sはショート)となる。フェアリングの種類にはロング、ショート、ワイドの3タイプがある。
試験機のため、打上げ時にはメインの衛星のダミーとして「性能確認用ペイロード(VEP)」が搭載されるが、副衛星として、革新的衛星技術実証3号機関連の衛星2基や、Space BD社関連の衛星超小型衛星4基の合計6基が相乗りする予定。
超小型衛星の搭載方法については、新たな仕組みも導入。H3ロケット試験機2号機では、フェアリングの分離面に近い位置に超小型衛星が搭載されていたため、分離時の衝撃レベルが高いことが課題となっていた。6号機では新たに超小型衛星搭載用のリング形状アダプタ「超小型衛星搭載アダプタ」を開発して衛星を設置することで、衝撃を緩和する技術実証を行なう。
■ まもなく地上試験を実施
打上げに向け、6号機は5月27日には種子島で「1段実機型タンクステージ燃焼試験(CFT)」が行なわれる予定。この試験は、実際に打上げが行なわれる予定の発射台に実機を固定し、エンジンに点火・燃焼させる地上試験。これにより機体とエンジンを組み合わせ、十分な機能が備わっているかを確認する。
打上げ施設には新たに「機体把持装置」と「ホールドダウンシステム」も整備。「機体把持装置」は文字通り、機体を支えるための構造。H3ロケットはH-IIA型より大型の機体であることから、燃料が入っていない状態では風の影響を受けやすく、最悪の場合故障もありえる。「機体把持装置」により、ロケット本体をしっかりと支えることが可能になり、風の影響を受けにくくなる。
これまでは機体把持装置が無い状態でH3ロケットを打上げてきたが、ようやく装置の整備が完了したという。試験では、実際に機体に推進剤を充填した極低温状態での作動確認などを行なう。
「ホールドダウンシステム」は、液体燃料を使うLE-9エンジンが正常に稼働するのを確認するまでロケット本体が離陸しないようにするために固定する仕組み。
SRB3などの固体ロケットは、一度点火したら消すことができないのに対して、液体燃料を使用するエンジンは、一度点火しても不具合があれば止めることができる。このため離陸時にはまず液体燃料を使うエンジンを点火し、不具合がないことを確かめてから固体ロケットに点火する必要がある。これまでのH3ロケットやH-IIAロケットは、点火前の固体燃料が「おもり」となることから、ホールドしなくても液体燃料のエンジンだけで離陸することはなかった。
しかし、30形態では固体燃料ロケットが存在せず液体燃料エンジンのLE-9のみで打上げ可能であることから、エンジン点火後、ロケット本体を固定する必要がある。そのための仕組みが「ホールドダウンシステム」となる。ロケット本体を4カ所の射座金具で固定しておき、LE-9エンジンが正常に立ち上がったことを検知すると火工品(分離ナット)によって4カ所の拘束を同時に解除する仕組み。
これらの試験が順調に進めば、H3ロケット6号機(30形態試験機)の打上げは年度内に行なわれる見込み。
なお、2025年度はこのほか、H3ロケット24W(ワイド)形態による「新型宇宙ステーション補給機 HTV-X 1号機」、H3ロケット22S形態による「みちびき5号機」「みちびき7号機」の打上げも予定されている。
