新型マツダCX-60 PHEV Premium Modernは、“夢”が膨らむSUVだ!!! ユーノス、アマティの流れを汲む高級車に迫る

一部改良を受けた新型マツダCX-60の最上級グレード「PHEV Premium Modern」に乗った。
新型CX-60は、マツダの新世代ラージ商品群の第一弾だ。エンジン縦置き後輪駆動ベースプラットフォームを採用したのが特徴で、従来のマツダSUVとは一線を画す。
新型マツダCX-60 PHEV Premium Modernの価格は¥6,462,500。マツダ車で600万円超と聴くとビックリするユーザーは多いかもしれない。ちなみに、ひとまわり大きい「CX-80」の「PHEV Premium Modern」は、¥7,122,500！
バブル崩壊＆5チャンネル体制の失敗で、マツダの高級車はしばらく封印されてきた。かつては全長5.0m近いマツダ「センティア」や、ラグジュアリークーペのユーノス「コスモ」をラインナップしたものの、いずれも2000年までに生産終了。
以降はマツダ「ミレーニア」が高級車カテゴリーを担ったものの、同車の生産終了後は、かつての「カペラ」である「アテンザ（MAZDA 6）」のみだった。
そうした状況下にあって、新型CX-60の投入はマツダの悲願だったのかもしれない。利益率の高い高級車の投入は、企業としての価値を高めるためにも必要不可欠である。
もっとも、マツダには高級車づくりのノウハウがないわけではない。前出のセンティアやコスモに加え、1990年代前半にはアマティ「1000」と、呼ぶ、超高級車の開発も秘密裏に進められていた。
アマティ1000は、北米市場で展開予定だったプレミアムブランド「アマティ」のフラッグシップモデルとして計画。4.0リッターV型12気筒ガソリンエンジン搭載の超大型セダンだった。当時の想定ライバルは、レクサス「LS」など。
開発は最終段階まで進んだものの、マツダの業績悪化に伴い、アマティ計画自体がキャンセル。よってアマティ1000が、日の目を見ることはなかった。
はたして、アマティ1000がどんなクルマに仕上がったのかは未知数だが、12気筒エンジン搭載はロマンがある。6気筒や8気筒は今も昔もさまざまなメーカーが手がけているものの、12気筒は希少。特に日本車では、今も昔もトヨタだけである。そうした中にあってマツダが開発を進めていたのはスゴい。超高級車のあるべき姿、カタチを突き詰めた結果だろう。
現行の新型CX-60も、アマティ1000を含む“マツダの高級車”の流れを汲むとしたら“夢”が膨らむ。
