「映像見たけど怖すぎる」浜辺に掘った穴に海水→少年が抜け出せず「腰から下は完全に…」
米カリフォルニア州のビーチに海水浴に来ていた少年2人が、砂に埋もれて抜けなくなる事態が起きた。原因は、砂に染み込んだ海水だった。救助の様子がSNSで拡散されている。

映像は8月、同州ニューポート・ビーチの桟橋付近で撮影された。少年たちが水際で大きな穴を掘って座っていたところに、海水が流れ込んだ。波に運ばれた砂に埋もれ、はまってしまった少年たち。自力で立とうしても、大人が数人がかりで引っ張ってもびくともしない。
最終的には、ライフセーバー数人が加わり、砂や水をかき出して救助した。FOX11の取材に応じた救難隊長のマーク・ハーマン氏によれば、少年たちは腰から下が完全に埋まっていたが、上半身の身動きが取れたのが不幸中の幸いだったという。
「砂は濡れると重くなる」「（子どもたちが）トンネルを掘っている時や、深く掘りすぎて上部の砂が崩れたとき、とても危険な状況に陥ります」とハーマン氏は説明した。
砂を深く掘って入るような遊びをする場合は、波際から遠く離れたビーチの奥でやるようハーマン氏は警告している。なお、2024年7月には、フロリダ州で7歳の女児が同様のケースで亡くなっている。
SNSには、「映像を見たけど怖いね。ライフセーバーや周囲の大人がすぐに対応してくれてよかった」「あわや大惨事になるところでしたね」「それにしてもどれだけ深くまで掘ったの？ すごく大きい穴だね」などの声が上がっている。
