新型アウディS5アヴァントは隙がない!!! 今や希少なスポーツワゴンの魅力を考える

日本に上陸した新型A5シリーズのうち、高性能バージョンのS5アヴァントに乗った。
新型A5シリーズは、従来のA4シリーズの後継モデルだ。これまでのA5の名前は、A4ベースの2ドアクーペやカブリオレ、スポーツバック（5ドアクーペ）に与えられていたが、新型ではオーソドックスなセダンとステーションワゴンのアヴァントがA5を名乗る。
アウディの量販モデルとして、いつの時代もクオリティの高さが魅力だった。私ごとながら、筆者の母も4台つづけてA4アヴァントに乗っていた。3代目と4代目だ。
特に印象深かったのは4代目で、クリーンな内外装デザインや輸入車トップクラス（当時）のインフォテインメントシステム「MMI（マルチメディアインターフェース）」、豊富な快適装備など、ひと目で「いいクルマだなぁ」と、わかる完成度の高さだった。
母も気に入っていたようで、4代目は3年ごとに乗り換えていた。同じボディカラー＆同じグレードに乗り換えた時は、唖然としたが……。
目前にある新型アウディS5アヴァントは、当時、アウディに抱いていた印象とまったく変わらない。クリーンで機能美にあふれる。ライバルのメルセデス・ベンツやBMWとは一線を画す、おだやかなデザインだ。あらゆるシチュエーションにフィットするはずだ。
今や希少なステーションワゴンである新型アウディS5アヴァントは、ミニバン＆SUVが溢れる街中では存在感を放つ。スタイリッシュでありながら実用性も確保。通常時の荷室容量は448Lで、すべてのリヤシートを格納すれば1424Lに拡大する。
新型アウディS5アヴァントの電動開閉式テールゲートは、アウディらしく精緻な動きで上下する。荷室は、隅々まで丁寧な処理が施されていて、かつスクエアな形状だから使い勝手も良い。トノーカバーは、テールゲートの開閉にあわせて自動で上下し、積載性を高める。
