徳島 伝統の藍染め 染料作るための「寝せ込み」の作業始まる
徳島伝統の藍染めの染料を作るために藍の葉を発酵させる「寝せ込み」と呼ばれる作業が、徳島県上板町で始まりました。
徳島県上板町にある佐藤阿波藍製造所で2日、8人の職人が早朝から集まって、「すくも」と呼ばれる藍染めの染料を作るための「寝せ込み」の作業が始まりました。
この作業は乾燥させた藍の葉の発酵を促すもので、職人たちは1メートルほどの高さに積み上げた藍の葉に水をまき、大きな熊手でかき混ぜたあと、再び均等な高さに積み上げていました。
製造所によりますと、この作業を5日に1回のペースで20回ほど繰り返し、およそ100日かけて「すくも」を完成させるということです。
ここ数年は暑さの影響で発酵が早く進む傾向があり、製造所では12月初旬の出荷に向け、藍の葉を積み上げる高さやかける水の量などを通じて発酵のスピードを調整しながら作業を進めるということです。
職人の佐藤好昭さんは「ことしは雨の量が少なく、やりにくかった部分もあるが、猛暑の対策などをして、出来栄えは上々です。きれいな色が出る染料になってほしい」と話していました。
