サンローランがシャルロット・ペリアンの名作家具を再現──2025年、ミラノデザインウィークでおさえておくべきトピックス
2025年ミラノデザインウィークで、サンローランがシャルロット・ペリアンとのコラボレーションによる家具を発表。アンソニー・ヴァカレロの監修のもと、歴史的名作が現代に蘇った。
【写真を見る】サンローランによって再現された4つの名作家具
シャルロット・ペリアンは、モダンデザインの先駆者として知られ、自然素材と機能性を融合させた作品で名を馳せたデザイナー。時代を超えた美しさと実用性を兼ね備えたデザインで、今でも人気を集めている。
ミラノデザインウィーク期間中に行われた展示では、アンソニー・ヴァカレロ監修のもと、ペリアンが手がけた4つの家具をピックアップ。これらの作品は、試作品やスケッチとして存在していたもので、今回サンローランが忠実に復刻し限定版として再発表した。1962年にデザインされた「Bibliothèque Rio de Janeiro」や、1967年の「Banquette de la Résidence de l'Ambassadeur du Japon à Paris」など、見た目の美しさとともに歴史的価値も高いコレクションだ。
■蘇った4つの名作
1.ブラジルのクラフトワークを取り入れた本棚「Bibliothèque Rio de Janeiro（1962）」
この本棚「Bibliothèque Rio de Janeiro」は、1962年にアート作品と書籍を同時に展示する目的で設計され、彼女の夫ジャック・マルタンのアパートの応接スペースで使用される予定だったという。高さ260cm、幅455cmというその迫力ある大きさと籐編みのスライドする扉が特徴で、シャルロット・ペリアンがブラジルを訪れた際に出合い魅了された、伝統的な家屋のためのクラフト技術を取り入れている。これまでポンピドゥー・センターやプチ・パレなどでわずか3回しか展示されたことがなく、現在は個人のコレクションとして所有されているが、今回限定版として再現された。
2.日本大使公邸用に考案されたソファ「Banquette de la Résidence de l'Ambassadeur du Japon à Paris（1967） 」
日本政府からパリの日本大使公邸の設計を依頼された坂倉準三は、友人だったシャルロット・ペリアンに内装と家具デザインを依頼。ペリアンは広い応接室のために、全長7mを超える5人掛けソファをデザインした。座面の両端が上向きにカーブしており、まるで宙に浮いているかのようにみえる浮遊感のあるデザインが特徴だ。両端のサイドテーブルのように使える部分には籐を採用し、テキスタイルはタイシルクとなっている。
3.インドシナでデザインされたアームチェア「Fauteuil Visiteur Indochine (1943)」
このアームチェアは、シャルロット・ペリアンがインドシナ滞在中にデザインしたものだ。日本政府の産業美術顧問としての任務を終えた後、戦時中ゆえアメリカやヨーロッパに渡航できなかった彼女はインドシナへ向かう。当時インドシナ経済局長だったジャック・マルタンと家庭を築き、自身の家で使用する家具としてこの椅子をデザインした。カーブと直線を描くエレガントなクロームチューブとレザー、ローズウッドを組み合わせ、モダンさと伝統的要素が融合した本作は、コンパクトなサイズ感と軽やかなデザインが魅力だ。
4.60年の時を経て実現したテーブル「Table Mille-Feuilles (1963)」
「Table Mille-Feuilles」は、明るさの異なる2種類の木材を10層重ねた独創的なデザインのテーブル。円形の天板の縁は面取りされ、中心部がくぼみ、同心円を形成している。ペリアンはデスクの上に模型を飾っていたが、天板の加工が難しかったため実際には製作されることはなかった。しかし本作は、ペリアンの創造性を象徴する作品としてこれまで高く評価されており、今回、サンローランにより30点限定で生産された。製品ごとに異なる木目を有し、唯一無二の魅力を放つ。
■カルチャーを拡張するサンローラン
創業以来、サンローランはファッションだけでなく、業界の内外に影響力を持ち続けてきた。映画制作を担うサンローランプロダクションが手掛けた映画『エミリア・ペレス』は、昨年カンヌ国際映画祭で受賞し、ライフスタイルプロダクトラインのサンローラン リヴ・ドロワはパリとLAに実店舗を構え、書籍、ヴィンテージアイテム、音楽、アートやパフォーマンス、などの文化的な取り組みも行われている。今回の展示もまた、ブランドのDNAを新たな方法で表現し、サンローランの世界観を拡張した試みといえるだろう。
