世にも珍しいヘビにSNS衝撃。レントゲン写真にも注目「自然界って本当におもしろい」米
米カリフォルニア州バークレーにあるペットショップが3月27日、公式インスタグラムを更新。世にも珍しいヘビとそのレントゲン写真を公開し、SNSで話題を呼んでいる。

は虫類のペットショップ「イースト・ベイ・ビバリウム」が公開したのは、2つの頭を持つカリフォルニアキングヘビ。胴体は1つだが、頭部は2つある。レントゲン写真にも2つの背骨が写っている。
同ペットショップは後日、ヘビの映像を公開。2つの頭が独立して動いているが、「1つの胃、1つの心臓を共有していると考えている」と店は推測する。
2つの投稿には計23万の“いいね”がつき、「マジでどうなってんの？信じられないんだけど」「長く生きてほしい」「自然界って本当におもしろい」などのコメントが寄せられている。
ニュース番組「ABC7 News」によれば、双頭のヘビが生まれる確率は10万分の1。そこから生き延びる確率は極めて低いという。だが、このヘビはすでに7カ月も生きている。
オーナーのアレックス・ブランチャードさんは、同局に「キングヘビの平均的な寿命は20〜30年です。この個体も通常のヘビの寿命と同じぐらい生き延びると、私たちは現時点で考えています」と期待を寄せた。
ヘビには、それぞれジークとエンジェルという名前がつけられた。現時点で、販売する予定はないという。
