新型GRカローラ登場！ 進化点に迫る
一部改良を受けた進化型「GRカローラ」は、街中で乗っても楽しめるホットハッチだった！ 『GQ JAPAN』ライフスタイルエディターの稲垣がリポートする。

一部改良を受けた新しいGRカローラに、2025年4月末に乗った。
今年3月から発売開始された進化型GRカローラは、スーパー耐久シリーズなどのモータースポーツに参戦する中で得た学びを生かし、高速コーナーでの旋回性能、加速性能や冷却性能などを改良したという。
具体的には空冷式ATFクーラー前のロアグリルに冷却用の開口を設定。フロントバンパー側面のサイドダクトに空気の排出用の開口を設けることで冷却用の空気をスムーズに排出できる構造を採用した。
また、より安定した制動力を確保するブレーキダクトを採用。フロントブレーキローターに直接風を導いて冷却効果を向上し、ブレーキ温度の上昇を抑制するという。
加えて、進化型「GRヤリス」にも採用した新開発8速ATの「GAZOO Racing Direct Automatic Transmission」が追加設定された。GAZOO Racing Direct Automatic Transmissionは、世界トップレベルの変速スピードを目指したATで、ブレーキの踏み込み方・抜き方、アクセル操作まで細かくモニタリング。運転状況を先読みし、プロドライバーによるシフト操作と同じようなタイミングでのギヤ選択を実現したのが特徴だ。
「SPORT Package」も、メーカーパッケージオプション設定された。専用セミバケットシート（スライド＆リクライニング／GRマーク付）やウルトラスエード巻き3本スポークステアリングホイール（鋳物ブラック塗装／GRエンブレム・センターマーカー付）、ELR付3点式レッドシートベルト（プリテンショナー＆フォースリミッター機構付［フロント］）、鋳物ブラック加飾などを含む。価格は¥253,000だ。
今回は公道試乗だったので試す機会はなかったが、「サーキットモード」も設定された。これは、国内のサービス対象サーキット・施設において、アンチラグ制御の追加やスピードリミッター上限速度の引き上げなど、クルマのポテンシャルを引き出す機能が有効となるサービスだ。
GPSによる位置判定および専用アプリ上での操作により、シフトタイミングやエンジン回転数を直感的に示す専用メーター表示に切り替わり、サーキットモードが利用可能となる。
進化型の発表に伴い、すでにGRカローラを購入しユーザー向けにアップグレード用の部品セットも用意した。進化型GRカローラの部品を購入・装着することで、今回の進化の一部を体感できるそうだ。
たとえば「旋回性能向上サスペンションセット」の場合、リバウンドスプリング付きフロント・リヤショックアブソーバーやリヤスタビライザーなどを換装することで、コーナーでさらなる速さと安定性を発揮する旋回性能を実現するという。
