米司法省 ロサンゼルスでの暴徒化めぐり 市の条例は違法と提訴
アメリカ西部ロサンゼルスで6月に起きた、移民の大規模な摘発に抗議するデモで一部が暴徒化したことをめぐり、アメリカ司法省は、ロサンゼルス市が、条例に基づいて政権の移民政策への協力を拒んだことが原因の一つとなったとして、この条例は違法だとする訴えを起こしました。
アメリカのトランプ大統領が「史上最大の不法移民の強制送還」を掲げて去年11月に当選したあと、移民に寛容な都市として知られるロサンゼルス市は、市の予算や職員などを、連邦の移民の取締りに利用することを禁じる条例を制定しています。
アメリカ司法省は6月30日、この条例がトランプ政権の不法移民対策を妨げ、連邦法に違反しているとして、違法性の確認と差し止めなどを求めて、カリフォルニア州の連邦地方裁判所に提訴しました。
提訴にあたって司法省は、ロサンゼルスで6月に、滞在資格のない移民の大規模な摘発に抗議するデモで、一部が暴徒化したことについて「ロサンゼルス市が協力を拒否したことが暴動や略奪、破壊行為の一因となった」と批判しています。
一方、ロサンゼルス市とカリフォルニア州は、事態の鎮静化のためとして、トランプ大統領が州兵や海兵隊を派遣したことについて、「かえって緊張を高めるだけだ」と主張し、トランプ政権との対立が深まっていました。
