ChromeにGeminiを内蔵 「Chrome最大のアップグレード」
Googleは18日(米国時間)、「Chrome史上最大のアップグレード」を発表した。WebブラウザのGoogle Chromeに多くのAI機能を導入していく方針で、まずは米国において英語のMac/Windows版のChromeにGeminiボタンを追加し、複数のタブの要約や情報整理などをGeminiに依頼できるようになる。

新機能の「Gemini in Chrome」は、Chromeブラウザに内蔵されたGemini。Chromeで閲覧しているページについて、要点をすばやく確認したいときは Geminiに相談し、記事やページ、スレッドを簡潔に要約してブラウザに表示する。ページの内容についての質問にもGeminiが回答するほか、閲覧している商品についての質問や他の商品との比較、メリットやデメリットの紹介などもGeminiが教えてくれる。また、YouTube動画内の調べたい部分をGeminiが教えるといった使い方も可能となる。
まずは米国から開始し、今後数週間以内にGoogle Workspace経由で企業向けのGemini in Chromeも展開。また、モバイル版ChromeにもGeminiを導入予定としている。

今後数カ月で、Chrome版Geminiにエージェント機能を追加する。これにより、美容院の予約や毎週の食料品の注文など、繰り返しの面倒なタスクをChrome版Geminiが代行し、ユーザーが実行したい内容を伝えるだけで、ウェブページ上で代わりに処理を行なう。この制御はいつでも停止可能としている。
また、Chrome版Geminiが複数タブを横断して動作可能となるため、複数のウェブサイト情報を迅速に比較・要約し、必要な情報を見つけられる。たとえば、フライト・ホテル・観光プランを別タブで検討中の場合、ChromeのGeminiが情報を1つの旅程にまとめ、旅行計画を簡単に作成できるという。
閲覧履歴もGeminiから調べられるようになる。例えば、「先週クルミ材のデスクを見たサイトは?」や「新学期ショッピングで読んだブログは?」といったプロンプトで、過去に見ていたサイトをすぐに呼び出すといったことが可能。
また、タブを切り替えずGoogleアプリと連携できる。ChromeのGeminiとカレンダー、YouTube、マップなどお気に入りのGoogleアプリとの連携を強化し、表示中のページを離れることなく、会議のスケジュール設定や場所の詳細確認などが可能となる。例えばYouTube動画の特定箇所を探す場合、ChromeのGeminiに尋ねれば即座にその場面へ移動する。
パソコンのChromeアドレスバー(オムニボックス)では、Google検索の「AIモード」に素早くアクセスできるようになる。AIモードでは、より長く複雑な質問を行なえる。また、オムニボックスから、現在表示中のページ全体についてGeminiに質問でき、追加でAIモードで検索するといったことも可能。米国英語版で利用可能となっており、今後数週間でさらに多くの国と言語に展開予定としている。
セキュリティにおいてもAIを活用する。セーフブラウジングの強化保護モードでは既にGemini Nanoを活用し、有害なソフトウェアのダウンロードを促すテクニカルサポート詐欺を検知している。今後は、偽のウイルスや偽のプレゼントキャンペーンでユーザーを騙すサイトもブロック対象に追加予定としている。詐欺検知や迷惑通知への対応も強化している。
パスワード管理においてもAIを活用している。Chromeのパスワード管理機能において、Coursera、Spotify、Duolingo、H&Mなど対応サイトでは、保存済みパスワードをワンクリックで変更できるようになる。
