新型レクサスGX550“OVERTRAIL+”が、見ても乗ってもプレミアムなオフローダーだったワケとは
日本でも発売開始されたレクサス「GX」の「GX550“OVERTRAIL+”」に『GQ JAPAN』ライフスタイル・エディターのイナガキが乗った。ワイルドさを増した最新オフローダーに迫る！

試乗車のGX550“OVERTRAIL+”は、インテリアにも数多くの専用品を装備する。
フロントシートは、シートバックサイドに悪路走行時の頭部揺れを低減するデザインを採用。これにより、身体がシートバックサイドに接触時、胸部への左右の揺れをいなすことで頭部の揺れを抑え、前方視界の安定化と疲労軽減に寄与するという。今回、ハードな悪路走行では試せなかったものの、通常の道……たとえば箱根のワインディングロードでも、ホールド性の高さを実感。悪路走行のみならず、スポーツ走行でも力を発揮するデザインだった。
インテリアカラーはボディーカラーとコーディネートされた「“OVERTRAIL+”シャトー」。鮮やかな色味が、室内の広々感を高める。
“version L”が3列シートの7人乗りであるのに対し、“OVERTRAIL+”は2列シートの5人乗りだ。その分、ラゲッジルームが広く、使い勝手に優れる。リヤシートを格納すると全長は最大1494mmに拡大し、アウトドアで必要なさまざまな荷物の積載を可能とした。テーブルでもチェアでも難なく積み込めそうだ。
加えてGXには、「バックドアガラスハッチ」も装備。バックドアを開くスペースのない狭い駐車場などでも、クルマを前方に移動させることなく、ガラスハッチだけを開けるのみでモノを取り出せるのが便利だ。ほかのモデルにはあまりない装備だけに、レクサスの優位性が際立つ。
ハンドルを握った印象は、オフローダーとは思えぬスムーズさに感動。搭載するV6 3.5リッター ツインターボエンジンは、最高出力260kW(353ps)、最大トルク650Nmを発揮するから、あらゆる場面で巨体を軽々と走らせる。低速から立ち上がるワイドでフラットなトルク特性は実に扱いやすく、運転していると、オフローダーであることをつい忘れてしまう。
トヨタ「ランドクルーザー“250”」はGXと比べリーズナブルだが、エンジンは4気筒のみ。乗り比べるとGXの上質さが際立つ。イマドキの4気筒は、昔と比べ安っぽさが薄れたもののやはり6気筒と比べると、マルチシリンダーが魅力的だ。
おなじ6気筒エンジンを搭載するランドクルーザー“300”と比べると、GXの高い静粛性に気が付く。なぜレクサスが1000万円超であるのかも納得。静かな車内に、メーカーオプションの「“マークレビンソン” プレミアムサラウンドサウンドシステム」は、是非とも装着したい。
あらゆる音源をクリアかつ、ダイナミックに楽しめる。調べるとバックドアのエンクロージャーに大型のサブウーファーを設置。これにより重厚でキレの良い低音域を響かせるという。大型オフローダーならではのサウンドシステムだ。ほかにClari-Fi™(クラリファイ)圧縮音源復元テクノロジーも搭載。音楽ファイルの圧縮時に失われた低音・高音の補完、圧縮時に生じた歪みの除去を可能にした。
乗り心地は、オフロード仕様とは思えぬほどしなやか。今回はほとんどオンロードのみだったが、不快なシーンは一切なし。試乗車の足まわりには「E-KDSS」を専用装備。前後のスタビライザーを独立して電子制御し、路面状況や前後輪それぞれの状況に応じてより細かくスタビライザー効果を変化させる。オフロードだけでしか効果を体感できないものかと思いきや、たとえば車道から歩道を横切って駐車場に入るようなシーンでも効果を実感。段差乗り越え時の、しなやさかが圧倒的に違う。GX550“OVERTRAIL+”は、ふわっと段差を乗り越える感じだ。ほかのオンロードでも路面の凹凸をしなやかにいなし、快適なドライブを提供する。レクサスのブランドにふさわしい乗り味だ。
GX550“OVERTRAIL+”には、「マルチテレインセレクト」も搭載。オフロード走行において、路面状況に応じた走行支援を6つのモードから選べるシステムだ。今回、使う場面はなかったもののいざというとき便利だ。
このほかに凹凸の激しいオフロードや滑りやすい路面の走行時、アクセルやブレーキ操作をすることなく、ステアリング操作のみで極低速走行が可能な「クロールコントロール」、エンジンブレーキだけでは十分減速できないような険しい急坂路の降坂時、スイッチ操作により、4輪のブレーキを自動的に制御し、タイヤロックすることなく安定した降坂を支援する「ダウンヒルアシストコントロール」なども標準装備。見た目だけではなくハード面もGX550“OVERTRAIL+”ならではの特別機能がいくつも備わるのが嬉しい。
新型レクサスGX550“OVERTRAIL+”は、オフロード性能を高めたモデルではあるものの、オンロードでも素晴らしい乗り味を披露した。ワイルドな雰囲気を求めるユーザーはコレ一択だろう。ちなみに¥11,950,000の価格は、“version L”より¥750,00安い。5人乗りで十分なユーザーは、GX550“OVERTRAIL+”で十分だと思う。
もっとも、どちらを買っても素敵なGXライフを送れるから、あとは納期と相談になるはずだ。大人気モデルの宿命だ。
