新型レクサスNX“OVERTRAIL”は、見てくれだけのアウトドア仕様ではなかった！ 乗って分かった意外な実力に迫る

レクサスNXに改良が施されるのと同時に新たに設定された“OVERTRAIL”は、ひとことで言うとアウトドア仕様だ。SUVのアウトドア仕様と聞くと、“白い白馬”のようでヘンだと思われるかもしれない。けれども、実車の外観はすっきり、精悍にまとまっている。
マットブラックに塗られたグリルやアルミホイール、シックなインテリアカラーなど、見る人が見れば標準仕様との違いがわかるけれど、それほど興味のない人にはフツーのレクサスのSUVに見えるという絶妙の塩梅だ。やりすぎない、控えめの演出がレクサスっぽい。
“OVERTRAIL”は、NXの450h＋、350h、350の3つのグレードに設定されるけれど、本日の試乗車は2.4リッター直列4気筒ガソリンターボエンジンを積むNX350。NX350には2WD（前輪駆動）の設定がないので、試乗車も当然ながらAWDだ。
都心をスタートして真っ先に感じることはふたつ。
まず、サイズ感がいい。全長4660mmというサイズは、同じ基本骨格を用いるトヨタの「ハリアー」や「RAV4」と同等だから、日本の道路事情でも取りまわしがいい。
次に感じるのは、乗り心地の良さ。レクサスNXは2022年にデビューしたときからボディのしっかり感と好ハンドリングが特徴だったけれど、そこに今回の改良で、やさしい乗り心地が加わった印象だ。
“OVERTRAIL”は路面の凹凸や轍を容易に乗り越えられるように、標準仕様に比べて15mm最低地上高を高めている。一般にこうしたチューニングを施すと、車体がぐらりと傾かないように足まわりを締め上げて、乗り心地が悪くなる傾向にある。
けれどもこのNX350“OVERTRAIL”は最低地上高を引き上げるだけでなく、路面状況や運転スタイルに応じて足まわりのセッティングを調整するAVS（アダプティブ・バリアブル・サスペンション・システム）にも手をくわえたという。この“ひと手間”によって、路面からのショックをしんなりとさせているわけで、見てくれだけのアウトドア仕様ではないのだ。
