陸上世界選手権 男子棒高跳び デュプランティス 世界新で3連覇
東京で行われている陸上の世界選手権、男子棒高跳び決勝でスウェーデンのアルマンド・デュプランティス選手が自身が持つ世界記録を1センチ更新する6メートル30センチをマークして、大会3連覇を果たしました。
25歳のデュプランティス選手は、これまでに13回、世界記録をマークし、オリンピックと世界選手権でともに2連覇してきた世界王者です。
今大会では2位の選手が6メートルをクリアしたあとは失敗したのに対し、デュプランティス選手は6メートル10センチ、6メートル15センチを成功し、大会3連覇を早々に決めました。
記録との勝負になったこのあとは、トラックを含めてほかのすべての種目が終わって国立競技場の観客の注目を一身に集めるなかで、みずからが先月マークした世界記録より1センチ高い6メートル30センチに挑戦しました。
2回失敗して迎えた最後の3回目は、力強い助走から高く飛び上がり、体がわずかにバーに触れながらもクリアして自身14回目の世界新記録をマークしました。
観客からは大きな歓声が沸き上がり、デュプランティス選手もコーチ陣と抱き合ったり、雄たけびを上げたりして喜びを表していました。
デュプランティス選手は「誰も破ることができないと思っていた壁を破る人が好きだ」として、大リーグ、ドジャースの大谷翔平選手のファンだと明かしています。
