JR北海道、登別駅の新駅舎完成 10月11日使用開始
JR北海道は、登別駅の新駅舎、エレベーター、乗換こ線橋が完成したと発表した。10月11日に使用開始する。現駅舎はリフレッシュ工事を行ない、待合スペースとして26年度末ごろより使用開始する。

新駅舎のコンセプトは「歴史に佇み、現在を刻み、未来へと流れる駅」「道内有数の温泉地の玄関口として温泉街の風情を感じる駅」の2つ。
北海道産木材を使用し、木の温もりを伝えることで、温泉街の雰囲気を演出している。また、暖簾や銘木駅名標を出入口付近に設置することで、登別市らしさ、温泉地らしさを表現した。そのほか、隣接する登別市観光交流センター「ヌプル」と連携し、利便性向上を図る。
新駅舎屋根南面には太陽光パネルを設置するとともに、CO2フリー電気を活用。同駅の使用電力は実質的に100%再生可能エネルギー電力となる。
待合スペースに改修する予定の現駅舎は1935年に竣工した木造駅舎で、登別軟石を壁材に使用している。現在のこ線橋の使用開始も駅舎と同じ1935年。
エレベーターは新設された乗換こ線橋に設置。現在のこ線橋は撤去される。
