「コンクラーベ」次のローマ教皇選ぶ選挙始まる
ローマ・カトリック教会のフランシスコ教皇の死去に伴って次の教皇を選ぶための選挙、コンクラーベが、日本時間の8日午前0時45分ごろ、会場となっているバチカンのシスティーナ礼拝堂の扉が閉められ、始まりました。
教皇は慣習的に枢機卿の中から選ばれることになっていて、世界各地から集まった枢機卿たちが投票総数の少なくとも3分の2の得票者が出るまで投票を繰り返します。
投票の結果、新しい教皇が決まらなければ礼拝堂の煙突から黒い煙が、決まれば白い煙が上がることになっています。
これまでのコンクラーベでは、1回目の投票で決まった例は極めて少なく、枢機卿たちの出身地がアジアや中南米、アフリカなどと多様化する中、どの地域の出身者が選ばれるかも焦点です。
