やっぱり2ドアクーペは美しい!!! 今や世界的にも超希少な1台となったレクサスRC350“Final Edition”に迫る
生産終了が発表されたレクサスの2ドアクーペ「RC350」に設定された特別仕様車「“Final Edition”」に、『GQ JAPAN』ライフスタイル・エディターのイナガキが乗った！

レクサスRC350の特別仕様車“Final Edition”に7月頭、試乗した。
レクサスRCは、今や貴重な和製2ドアクーペだ。レクサス導入以前、トヨタブランドは「ソアラ」を筆頭に「スープラ」、「セリカ」、「サイノス」、「カローラレビン」、「スプリンタートレノ」、「セプタークーペ」など複数モデルをラインナップしていた。
それが今では「GR86」とスープラのみ。レクサスもRCと「LC」のみ。トヨタ＆レクサスの2ブランドをあわせても、たったの4モデルしかない。皆がこぞって購入した2ドアクーペは今、SUVやミニバンに取って代わったのだ。
2ドアクーペは、流麗なデザインと走行性能の高さが美点。実用性ではSUVやミニバンに敵わないけれど、居住性や荷室容量で選ぶモデルではない。特に試乗したRCや、上級のLCは“色気”たっぷり。妖艶な雰囲気が、不思議と人を惹きつける。
しかし、RCは間も無く生産終了となる。レクサスの公式ウェブサイトには、「RC350、RC300h RC300生産終了のお知らせ」を、以下の通り掲載している。
「弊社車両をご検討いただき、誠にありがとうございます。RC350、RC300h、RC300は2025年11月をもって生産終了する運びとなりました。ご注文が11月までの生産台数に達した時点で販売終了となります。ご検討時期によっては、販売終了したパッケージがある場合がございます。詳しくはレクサス販売店までお問合せください」
なお、RCに加え、5.0リッターV型8気筒ガソリンエンジンを搭載する「RC F」も生産終了となる。残念だ。
現行RCは2014年に登場。「IS」ベースの後輪駆動モデルだ。イマドキ、後輪駆動のミドルサイズの2ドアクーペは世界中でも数えるほどしかない。4人乗りに絞ると、思いつくのはメルセデス・ベンツ「CLE」、BMW「4シリーズ」ぐらい。そうした中にあって10年以上もRCを育ててきたレクサスは立派だ。
レクサスおよびトヨタのクルマづくりはロマンがある。ロマンがあるからこそ、RCやLCはもとより「GRヤリス」や「GRカローラ」といったホットハッチなどをラインナップするのだ。
