米ニューヨーク市長選挙 再選目指していた現職が撤退表明
ことし11月に行われるアメリカ・ニューヨークの市長選挙で再選を目指していた現職のアダムズ市長が撤退を表明しました。市長選挙にはトランプ大統領が「共産主義者」などと攻撃する民主党のマムダニ氏が立候補していて、現職候補の撤退による選挙戦への影響が注目されます。
11月4日に投開票が行われるニューヨーク市長選挙で、現職のアダムズ市長は28日、SNSに投稿した動画で、十分な選挙資金を確保することが困難になったなどとして、撤退すると表明しました。
ニューヨークは民主党の地盤で、選挙戦では、民主党の候補に選ばれた州の下院議員、ゾーラン・マムダニ氏と無所属で前ニューヨーク州知事のアンドリュー・クオモ氏が激しく争う一方、汚職の疑惑などを受けて無所属で立候補した現職のアダムズ市長は共和党の候補と並んで支持が伸び悩んでいました。
このうちマムダニ氏は富裕層や大企業への課税強化を主張するなど民主党の中でも左派色が強く、トランプ大統領はマムダニ氏が「共産主義者」だとして繰り返し攻撃しています。
アダムズ市長の撤退を受けてトランプ大統領はロイター通信に対し「クオモ氏のチャンスが広がった。歓迎する」と述べ、現職候補の撤退による選挙戦への影響やトランプ大統領の今後の言動が注目されます。
